Population:  29,121,286 (growth rate: 2.629% (2009 est.); birth rate: 45.46 births/1,000 population (2009 est.); infant mortality rate: 151.95 deaths/1,000 live births; life expectancy: 44.47 years; Density 111.8/sq mi.

Languages:  Persian (officially designated as Dari) 50%, Pashto 35%, Turkic languages (primarily Uzbek and Turkmen) 11%, Balochi and Pashayi 4% and much bilingualism.

Religion:  Muslim 99.7% (Sunni Muslim 84% and Shi’a Muslim15%) and others less than 1%

I PRAY FOR AFGHANISTAN:

Dear Lord God, today I uphold before you the nation and people of Afghanistan. I pray for wisdom and openness for those in authority. I proclaim tolerance and increased understanding for those of the Christian faith. I declare that more people will be reached with the love of Christ and many more will accept salvation as new doors are opened to the Gospel. I pray that your presence will comfort those who are persecuted and by the power of your Spirit, hostility ends in Afghanistan, stability grows and your justice will be continually established.  May Afghanistan be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord and may your Spirit oh God be poured out all over the land. There is peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and as God’s Word gains ascendancy in the land, so shall the Afghan economy grow. I declare today that Afghanistan shall be a blessing to the world in Jesus name. Amen!
