The
Unprecedented Attendance
The unprecedented crowds that thronged the Standard
Bank Arena for the four nights of the services
prompted the officials to heighten security
presence and emergency response patrols in
the area. Incident command vehicles, police
squad cars, ambulances, even a helicopter circled
the arena to ensure all went well.
By the fourth day, Saturday, 2nd of October,
the crowds that besieged the grounds of the Standard
Bank Arena were unprecedented. The auditorium
had been packed beyond its capacity. The two
overflow spaces – the tennis court and
an open area where two large tents were mounted
in the grounds of the arena – were also
filled with teeming crowds of eager worshippers
who were able to participate fully in the program
via projectors and large screen TV monitors. At 5:00 p.m on Saturday afternoon, officials
sealed off the main entrance into the arena after
all the overflow spaces were filled out. When
the surging crowd was eventually let in, they
were content to find a place to stand just to
hear the Word preached.
Concerned that the massive crowd that besieged
the arena would increase considerably on the
final night, local authorities pleaded with Pastor
Chris to close the services on Saturday night,
a decision the crowd reluctantly came to terms
with. Thus, 5 Days For Destiny ended on the fourth
day, an astounding success!
What was intended to be a moderate healing and
teaching conference turned into a major crusade
that attracted over 100,000 people from all over
Southern Africa and around the globe. |
