THE SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE
The difference between a successful, victorious Christian and the one who’s not; is not so much their gifts, but the knowledge they have.
Your limitations and your achievements today are a direct function and clear reflection of your knowledge or the lack of it. But with the right kind of knowledge, you can always be greater and better than you presently are.
Revelation Knowledge
Revelation knowledge is exact knowledge. It is specific, specialized and absolute knowledge. Revelation knowledge is knowledge from the Spirit of God that is imparted to your human spirit without any material medium. It is not the knowledge of the senses; it therefore transcends the mental realm. In the arena of revelation knowledge, there are no assumptions. You just know that you know what you know.
The Spirit of Knowledge Brings Awareness
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God” (1 Corinthians 2:12).
For the word translated “know” here, Paul used a Greek word “eido,” which means “to become aware.” Replacing “know” with the phrase “become aware of” gives us a better picture of what he’s showing us.
When the Spirit of knowledge comes into your life, He turns on the light in your life and you become aware of the things that are yours in Christ. The Spirit of knowledge has only just made you aware. But there’s more He wants to do than just bring you an awareness.
THE SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE BRINGS YOU FULL UNDERSTANDING
“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17-19)
Observe Paul’s choice of words carefully; he said, “And to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge.” How can you know something that surpasses knowledge? There are two words here I want you to mark: “Know” and “Knowledge.”
The Greek word translated “know” is “Ginosko.” It refers to revelation knowledge, which is absolute knowledge. So Paul was saying in essence, “And to have the absolute knowledge of the love of Christ,” which means, “to know the love of Christ by revelation.”
For the other word, “knowledge,” Paul chooses the Greek word “gnosis,” which is knowledge based on science, a discovery.
Putting both together, Paul would have said, “to ‘Ginosko’ the love of Christ which surpasses ‘gnosis’” that is, “to have a revelation of the love of Christ which surpasses scientific knowledge or human discovery.” He was talking about knowing the love of Christ beyond your senses and human definitions, but according to revelation. And this doesn’t just happen; it comes by the Spirit of knowledge.
HE “BRINGS YOU INTO” ESOTERIC KNOWLEDGE
This is yet another ministry, of the Spirit of knowledge: He brings you into esoteric knowledge:
“That the communication [participation] of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” (Philemon 1:6).
Here, Paul chooses another word, “epignosis,” which is translated “acknowledging.” You may have observed that there are similarities between all these Greek words, but there are also very significant nuances of meaning that must be clearly understood.
“Epignosis” is a derivative of another Greek word “Epiginosko” (which is actually a combination of two root words, “epi” and “ginosko”), and it means to recognize, perceive, or become fully acquainted with.
I call it a ‘’bringing into esoteric knowledge,’’ because, not only does this knowledge come to you, you’re brought into it. And it’s esoteric because it’s knowledge meant only for the “initiated.” Paul says the communication of your faith becomes effective by the “epignosis” of every good thing in you in Christ Jesus. This means that as you’re brought into this full and special knowledge of all the good things that are in you in Christ Jesus, the sharing of your faith becomes more productive.
Do you know the good things which are in you in Christ Jesus? You can only know them and understand them fully through the Spirit of knowledge. Not only will He help you discover, He’ll also bring you into the full knowledge of these things and how to put them to work. Then you would have a super life, praise God!
