Topic: Power of Prayer
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James5:16, KJV)
Confess to one another, therefore, your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also]for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. (James5:16, Amp)
And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes, And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all. And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. ( Luke6:12-20)
The Holy ghost strategy. Christians must learn effective prayers. To be effective in prayer, you have to know the rules of prayer. You have to ask in the name of Jesus.
3 things to observe why Jesus prayed all night. He needed to choose his 12 disciples. You didn’t find Jesus praying all night all the time. He prayed all night for a reason:
1)He had to choose his disciples
2)there was an extraordinary healing service that would be taking place the next day
3)There went virtues out of him, the power was in the atmosphere
So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, today have I begotten thee. As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (Hebrews 5:5-9)
So too Christ (the Messiah) did not exalt Himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed and exalted by Him Who said to Him, You are My Son; today I have begotten You; As He says also in another place, You are a Priest [appointed]forever after the order (with the rank) of Melchizedek. In the days of His flesh [Jesus] offered up definite, special petitions [for that which He not only wanted but needed]and supplications with strong crying and tears to Him Who was [always]able to save Him [out]from death, and He was heard because of His reverence toward God [His godly fear, His piety, in that He shrank from the horrors of separation from the bright presence of the Father]. Although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered And, [His completed experience] making Him perfectly [equipped], He became the Author and Source of eternal salvation to all those who give heed and obey Him, (Hebrews 5:5-9)
Jesus didn’t want the Separation from God, that was why he asked the cup to pass over him. He prayed with strong crying and tears. I have preached a message before titled, try tears.
And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. (Luke22:39-46).
They are actual positions of prayer, each position is significant. This time Jesus knelt down and pray at other times he looked up and pray. Jesus prayed earnestly, heartfelt and continued, the problem was not the temptation, the problem was falling into temptation. In order not to fall into temptation, he knew he had to pray.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:5-8).
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. (Hebrews 12:3-4 KJV)
Jesus endured the contradiction of sinners against himself, he who was without sin yet being judged by sinners. Jesus went through that so you don’t think what you are going through is too much for you. Yes, all these he did in prayers. That’s why Jesus told us men ought always to pray and not to faint. Pray with all your emotions into it, pray with all your person into it.
You have to read the book, praying effectively. If you have read it before, read it again. Everything that doesn’t depend on your personal decision needs this kind of prayer. You must understand we have an adversary who likes to make things difficult for us. When we win souls we don’t do it for us, we are doing it for them, but they don’t want to hear us so we have to prevail in the Spirit. Elijah prayed that there should be no rain and there was none. If you are going to see many souls come to Christ, you have to pray earnestly. Before you see the 30 people rise up from the wheelchair, they have risen already in the Spirit. You have to accomplish it in prayer. There are things frustrating the growth of the church, the Pastor has to be very sensitive, the devil sometimes brings distractions into the church, cast him out. A minister should be Spiritually minded. Every minister of God must have a sense of seriousness. You have an important assignment, you must have some discipline in your life. If you would pray, the changes you will see will amaze you.
And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:29-31).
When you are filled with the Spirit you will speak the word of God with boldness. You will be timid until you are filled. There is something that goes with being filled with Spirit, its Joy, and the Bible says with joy shall you draw water out of the well of salvation.
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bands were loosed. (Acts 16:25-26)
Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises and the place was shaken. He didn’t say the other prisoners, he said the prisoners because Paul and Silas didn’t see themselves as prisoners.
You have a right to receive an answer to every prayer according to the Bible, its what you do with the answer that matters. A conference like this is a place of decisions, by now your notes should be full.
